First off, I get a startup error that looks really bad. My Acer Aspire 1600, 2.4 Ghz P4, Gentoo Kernel 2.6 and the Version before 2004 responds to something like File System error and asks me to root in and fix it. Anyway, this may be related, but is not what this topic is about:
The way I start is log in as root, start kdm, log in as whoever, and when I want to su then, He says "permission denied".
How I would like to have it: I boot, AM in KDM right away, log in and can use "su" on my convinience.
Is this a known bug?
Oh, and can I emerge an update or something that fixes errors in my system that may be there or may be not (like an equivalent to reinstall Windows ;D ) |

What I wanted to say: First off, I didn't use my Gentoo for months, so I could use a complete update of my system.
How can I make the system clean and then update it (I would prefer only the system, cause the aps might take too long). Is like emerge -u system?
Hell yeah, I am a noob.
So imagine this. My System is messed up. There are many errors so what would YOU do with a potentially messed up Gnome, a working KDE, some Apps and an old system.
And THEN, go ahead, fix my bugs.
Thanks, love you guys. |

as for the SU issue, make sure your user is in the wheel group.
ie,
have a look in /etc/group and look at the wheel line
Code: | wheel:x:10:root,sura | my user, sura is in the wheel group and because of this can su. This issue is documented well in the forums.
Read the Desktop Guide, basically you edit rc.conf
set
Code: | DISPLAYMANAGER="kdm" |
then issue the following command
Code: | rc-update add xdm default |
This will start xdm at boot.
Again this is well documented in the desktop guide
When you say "there are many errors" what are these errors??[/quote] |
