i think nano is more easy to use - though i favorite vi. but once you've emerged vim, just change your environtment in /etc/profile:
export EDITOR="/usr/bin/vi"

Definitely go with VI over nano. As a seasoned Linux guy this is quite essential. Nano and pico are both very similar - they suck. In all seriousness though, I think the widest audience is going to prefer VI. |
