|
|
I have tried to get the mm-sources for the 2.6 kernel to compile but can't get it to work.
Try one... configured and compiled but the screen stuck at OK booting the kernel (yes I have virtual terminal thingy turned on)
Try two... genkernel but now whenever I boot the new kernel it immediately restarts my pc.
What am I doing wrong? Which sources do you recommend for someone who wants to move to the 2.6 kernel? _________________ Gentoo genkernel 2.4.22-gentoo-r7

Hi.
I would recommend the stable linux tree that comes from linus ( vanilla ) atm is 2.6.5
-mm tree is too much testing and will give you more troubles than anything else. _________________ linux: #232767 |

Cool, those are the ones I just emerged. I'm genkernaling them now to see if I can get it to work. _________________ Gentoo genkernel 2.4.22-gentoo-r7

genkernel its just a script that setup the kernel for you.
like, enables everything in the kernel as modules ( bloat )
and then load it all up on boot ( bloat )
i see on your sig that you call gentoo , "gentoo genkernel 2.4.22" like if it was some subversion or something _________________ linux: #232767 |

yeah, just figured I'd get it to work, then tweak ya know.
I just tried the genkernel with a no-go so I compiled myself and got it to work (using it now) and I do actually see an increase (games aren't as slow) now just to tweak it down to get rid of the stuff I don't need.
Thanks for the help _________________ Gentoo genkernel 2.4.22-gentoo-r7
