Recently I installed the new vmware workstation. Unlike previous versions using a 2.4 kernel, this time I'm using the 2.6.6 kernel. In order to get my CD-RW (Plextor 40/12/20A) to work, I had to select "Legacy Emulation" or the drive will not work in the guest OS. According to VMWare Support. I must use IDE-SCSI so I can access the cd-rw in raw mode. That should allow me to use the recording functions of my cd-rw within the guest os, as well as allowing me to deselect "Legacy Emulation". I've searched the forums extensivly, and found that under the 2.6 kernel you can use ide-cd instead of ide-scsi. Has anyone gotten either to work so that you didn't have to use "Legacy Emulation" inside the guest os?

I guess what I'm trying to say is, Do any Gentoo users have their cd-r/cd-rw working so that you can burn CD's in a guest os using VMware Workstation?

Don't ask why I want to do it  I paid $189 for a license so if it can do it, I'd like to try it. Granted it isn't anything that I can't do in Gentoo itself without using VMWare but hey I like to tinker with everthing. If I didn't I'd run RedHat

I use atapi, and I can use my cd-writer without legacy emulation as a reader, but I have not been able to burn any CD using vmware.

I don't really care though, so I have not tried that hard.
