Oooookay - I've been using mysql for a long time, and this one really has me stuck. I access mysql (4.0.18 right now) through PHP and phpmyadmin just fine, which is a good thing as it drives my web site. I also like to use GUI administration tools on my mac, like Aqua Data Studio, SQL4X Manager J, and/or CocoaMySQL. For some reason, I can't get any of them to work today. Aqua Data Studio dies with a stacktrace that I can't read (dialog sizing bug?), CocoaMySQL simply says it can't connect, and SQL4X Manager J gives me "Unexpected end of input stream" (java.io.IOException). If I change the MySQL Connector/J .jar file on my mac to something newer then it just hangs. Further complicating things, and what really justifies me posting this here, is that /var/log/mysql/mysqld.err is full of these:
Code: |
/usr/sbin/mysqld: ready for connections.
Version: '4.0.18' socket: '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' port: 3306
mysqld got signal 11;
This could be because you hit a bug. It is also possible that this binary
or one of the libraries it was linked against is corrupt, improperly built,
or misconfigured. This error can also be caused by malfunctioning hardware.
We will try our best to scrape up some info that will hopefully help diagnose
the problem, but since we have already crashed, something is definitely wrong
and this may fail.
key_buffer_size=16777216
read_buffer_size=131072
max_used_connections=0
max_connections=100
threads_connected=0
It is possible that mysqld could use up to
key_buffer_size + (read_buffer_size + sort_buffer_size)*max_connections = 233983 K
bytes of memory
Hope that's ok; if not, decrease some variables in the equation.
thd=(nil)
Attempting backtrace. You can use the following information to find out
where mysqld died. If you see no messages after this, something went
terribly wrong...
Cannot determine thread, fp=0xbfffc168, backtrace may not be correct.
Stack range sanity check OK, backtrace follows:
0x810fa75
0x401b81b3
0x400394e3
0x40039032
0x4003836e
0x40038167
0x811165d
0x8110ab8
0x402f6dcc
0x80c0fa1
New value of fp=(nil) failed sanity check, terminating stack trace!
Please read http://www.mysql.com/doc/en/Using_stack_trace.html and follow instructions on how to resolve the stack trace. Resolved
stack trace is much more helpful in diagnosing the problem, so please do
resolve it
The manual page at http://www.mysql.com/doc/en/Crashing.html contains
information that should help you find out what is causing the crash.
/usr/sbin/mysqld: ready for connections.
Version: '4.0.18' socket: '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' port: 3306

Anybody want to guide me through this issue? My server was yanked off it's power supply today (@#$% Hurricane Electric) and I didn't notice this problem until afterward, but it could be unrelated - I last tried remote GUI connections about 3 or 4 weeks ago. _________________ Osmos.org

May be a hard-drive related crash.
After checking data-integrity of the hard disk and the DB's I would recommend a re-emerge of mysql. _________________ Use dhcpcd for all your automated network configuration needs

Is there a good way to do this without booting from a LiveCD / alternate disk?
And furthermore, what's the recommended way of checking/repairing the disk if it's formatted as reiserfs? "reiserfsck --check /dev/hda3"? _________________ Osmos.org

I guess I'll just head down to the server farm with a LiveCD and a MaxBlast CD, and see what I can figure out from there. If anyone else has any ideas - feel free to pop in anytime
UPDATE: Well - this is very odd indeed. The mysterious crashes seem to have stopped, and I haven't tried anything since my last attempt to connect. Very strange indeed. Perhaps the fact I posted something on my site did something. In any case - I'll keep working at this. _________________ Osmos.org
