Does anyone use Flash Player if so how do you set it up ?

Follow-up ...

Has anyone tried the macromedia installation (manual install, not emerge)?

I previoulsy used Redhat with Mozilla, and the macromedia manual installation worked fine. I'll eventually try it and see if it works with Konqueror. But somebody has an opinion or previous experiences ... :wink:

What happens if Netscape or Mozilla is not an option (i.e. want to use Konqueror for a change ...) ?

konqueror uses (at least can use) the netscape plugins.

my konq runs perfectly with the netscape-flash plugin

...in the settings there's a search for netscape plugins option (or something like that) - enable it, restart konq and you're ready to go

opera also uses the netscape-flash plugin AFAIK

Is it only a problem of my system or is the linux flash plugin very slow compared to the windows one?

Well I did recompile Firebird with -gtk2 but I do not think I put in gtk it is better, I do know if you would have to put in gtk since I thought mozilla will not compile without some kind of gtk. Anyway the point is that it is not fixed, my sound is still off, it doesn't seem to be ass much, but it is very noticalbe watching flash movies such as ninjai. I used slackware before I came to gentoo, and I had this problems with flash there as well, what is odd is that I did not have the problems syncing the sound at all when I used netscape, but when I downloaded the plugin and installed it for mozilla is when the problems started. The difference was that in mozilla it looked a lot better pic wise and in netscape I did not have the audio sync problems. Then I realized that netscape was not using version 6 of the netscape plugin but rather 5 if I recall correctly. I stupidly thought that the problem was with the browser and not the plugin and I upgraded the netscape plugin to 6, and when I did just like mozilla it looked good but the sound was off. And I have not tried to install version 5 of the plugin cause I could not easily find it. I can only hope that either this stupid bug can be fixed so the flash works right, or that macromedia comes out with version 7 of their plugin for linux and that it works well. Or I may just shell out the cash for the crossover plugin which I have heard works flawlessly. Is that true?

I admit that I have used crossover plugin since it's introduction for flash. I have used gentoo linux for about two years and not used crossover or netscape-flash as I have been doing very little browsing except for school. I too notice the very laggy flash. But shockwave games seem ok. This does need resolving.

I use mozilla firefox compiled with gtk2 and here's a solution to the slow-flash issue that at least works for me:

$ export FLASH_GTK_LIBRARY=libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0
$ firefox
