USB Keyboard doesn't work

hi @ all!

i've got a Gericom Notebook, on which i managed to install Gentoo Linux 1.4

But now here is my problem: i've bought an USB Keyboard(Microsoft Office Keyboard), which has worked during the installation quite well. After the installation i had to recomile the kernel, because my network card didn't work. And with the new compiled kernel, my keyboard doesn't work any more, although i enabled all USB + HID options befor compiling.
(kernel: 2.4.19)
Do I need a patch, or do i just have to recompile the kernel??

could anyone help me, please??

I'd suggest looking through the USB Keyboard & Mouse how-to and seeing if you've missed something.
