|
|
I've been reading about an SMTP tarpit here:
http://www.iks-jena.de/mitarb/lutz/usenet/teergrube.en.html
and I was wondering if anyone thinks it would be a good idea to make an ebuild that could set this up.
I don't know if the procedure would be different for different mail servers. If it would, maybe there would be separate tarpit-<mailservername> ebuilds, otherwise it would just be a tarpit ebuild that depends on "virtual/mta" or something like that.
The reason that I ask is that I was intrigued by the way tarpits like this work, but I haven't installed it yet because I'm afraid it will ruin my (now working) mail setup
I suppose lots of people are willing to run something like this to fight spam, but just like me aren't confident enough to set it up themselves.
Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome.

I agree 100%...I run Qmail and since it was installed using emerge, I don't have any idea how to apply the qmail-tarpit or qmail-spamthrottle patches. Seems like as common as the need for this kind of stuff is on high volume mail servers, Gentoo would have automatically included things like this. _________________ I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant...

That would work if I was running Postfix _________________ I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant...

I'm with you guitard00d, tarpit patch would be great. My ebuild skills are very minimal I guess, when I try to modify it something breaks for me. I will keep trying. |
