|
|
Hi all,
can anyone tell me anything about any tweaks or whatnot to get the best out of this new card?
Here's what I've done so far:
- Changed Graphics Aperture Size in BIOS to 256MB
- Edited XF86Config to reflect the new video RAM setting
- Re-emerged the nvidia-kernel
Im getting about 2400 FPS on glxgears, does that sound right?
Many thanks...

Well, I'm getting roughyl 3200FPS in glxgears, and I only have a FX5900 (128MB VRAM).
If you go to /etc/modules.d/ and edit "nvidia" you can turn on Side Band Addressing and AGP Fast Writes. I have these turned on. However, I also have 2x Quincunx Multisampling enabled...
Changin SBA, FW and FSAA are the only things I can think of off the top of my head...
cheers... |

why do people keep using glxgears as some kind of benchmark? use a real game like ut2004 or quake.
the only useful thing you can tell from glxgears is the following:
if glxgears_score > ~1000 then graphics card is working else you are using software mode |

I get about 1400FPS with a GeForce 4 440 MX 64mb, so you should probably get a better FPS rate than you're getting.
But, as Angrybob said, glxgears isn't that great for a benchmark. Try ET or the u2004 demo. |

Aperture Size doesn't effect performance and doesn't need to be set like that. It's the amount of system ram that can be used if the video card runs out of memory.

You will need to post specs for the rest of your system before we can judge if that is a good score. Also, search around the forums. Especially the games forum as there have been a few threads on glxgears and other benchmark performance. |
