|
|
I've noticed recently that my cd writer has stopped being able to read CDs on my machine.
When I first bought it I had it connected to an epia 800 and it worked fine. Now I've changed motherboards to a Abit BE6-II it doesn't seem happy at all. The drive refuses to transfer data from any CDs I try. It spins up but doesn't actually transfer anything and says:
Code: | bash-2.05b$ cp /mnt/cdrom/readme.txt ~/
cp: reading `/mnt/cdrom/readme.txt': Input/output error |
I have tried the CD in another drive and it worked fine. I've tried the CD writer on a ECS K7S5A and it worked fine. But on my Abit BE6-II it won't have any of it.
Could it be a possible conflict between this CD writer and the motherboard?
The CD writer is reported as a:
Code: | 0,0,0 0) 'CD-RW ' 'CDR-7S52 ' 'QSG4' Removable CD-ROM |
dmesg gives:
Code: | ISO 9660 Extensions: RRIP_1991A

I'm going to be playing around with moving what IDE channel it is on but I feel it may just be an incompatibility between the motheboard and the drive. |

I moved the cd drive from secondary IDE to the highpoint controller on the motherboard and it locked the machine up when I tried to mount the CD. |

Have you recompiled your kernel since you switched motherboards? You might have to change which IDE controllers you've compiled in. |

I've gone through about 5 different kernels since the motherboard switch. Here is a link to my current kernel config:

I have the HPT366 driver loaded in. I also have the PIIX driver loaded in. I believe these are the right ones for my motherboard. Certainly my hard drive works fine on the highpoint controller. |
