Oh be fair! This is NOT even a release yet . Gandalf started the thread because he saw the files. If you want to jump the gun dont winge.
Love is always cutting-edge so YOU are a tester if you want to play.
The latest announced version is love4 . It works beautifully for me , and just about everyone who has posted in the support thread.
So , yes they do -test- , and do a damn good job.
Thanks, Steel & 1/1 |

thank you, neenee....
I've reinstalled gentoo but because ext3 won't compile first
I was forced to use 'normal' mm-sources .... _________________ LinuxUser: #310384 |

Don't know if this has something to do with love-sources but packet writing is broken also:
Code: | CC [M] drivers/block/pktcdvd.o
drivers/block/pktcdvd.c: In function `kcdrwd':
drivers/block/pktcdvd.c:1236: error: `PF_IOTHREAD' undeclared (first use in this function)
drivers/block/pktcdvd.c:1236: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
drivers/block/pktcdvd.c:1236: error: for each function it appears in.)
make[2]: *** [drivers/block/pktcdvd.o] Fout 1
make[1]: *** [drivers/block] Fout 2
make: *** [drivers] Fout 2

It failed for me on ext3 with the following:
Code: | fs/ext3/balloc.c: In function `ext3_should_retry_alloc':
fs/ext3/balloc.c:1001: error: structure has no member named `journal_info'
make[2]: *** [fs/ext3/balloc.o] Error 1
make[1]: *** [fs/ext3] Error 2 |
I just removed ext3 and it seemed to compile. I will post again when I reboot. (Hopefully my Nvidia will work with this one...)
UPDATE
Installed fine. Got Nvidia working with 5336-r2 instead of 5336-r3. Steam under WineX worked fine. Bootsplash worked like a charm. Time will tell if UT2004 is stable under this. I personally haven't found a stable Love since 2.6.6-rc3-love4. |
change journal_info to fs_context and it will work fine. _________________ Rationality is the recognition of the fact that nothing can alter the truth and nothing can take precedence over that act of perceiving it. |

I was sitting on this release. It has a few known problems.
1. ext3 is still broken in the patch.
2. pktcdvd won't compile.
3. reiser4 won't mount with large keys
4. bootsplash is still iffy.
Thanks to number 3, I can't use this release, but those that don't use reiser4 will be fine. I'll update the notes file in a minute so you wknow what's in it. _________________ Rationality is the recognition of the fact that nothing can alter the truth and nothing can take precedence over that act of perceiving it. |

Thanks steel, sorry for jumping the gun on this one btw. As Gentree said, I saw the files, someone else actually saw them before me. I posted in the love3 thread, someone said make a new thread, so I did. You confirm that bootsplash is iffy? Good, it's not just me. Snakattak3 claims that bootsplash is fine. Weird. Any name for this demon? |

I can confirm that I did indeed get bootsplash working perfectly in love4. The fact that there was a kernel oops when it got to 'Setting console images' on bootup threw me off. It turns out that the problem was merely that I forgot to compile in initrd support.
Wierd that it will oops without that, though... is there any way to use it without an initrd? If not, perhaps it should be added as a depend to bootsplash in menuconfig.
EDIT: I was curious how hard that would be to change, so I found the file and edited it:

2.6.6-mm5 is out.
http://kerneltrap.org/node/view/3176
Quote: | Request barriers, also known as write barriers, provide a mechanism for guaranteeing the order of disk I/O operations without actually waiting for the data to be written to disk. Specifically, a request barrier guarantees that any data queued up prior to the the barrier will be written to disk before data queued up after the barrier. Without a request barrier, the block layer can reorder how data is written to disk for maximum performance. The problem with this being most notably with journaling filesystems which require that their metadata be updated prior to actually updating data, allowing true crash recovery. Without request barriers, a journaling filesystem has to wait for the metadata change to be written to disk before it can proceed with actually updating the filesystem. Hence, the addition of request barriers provides a performance boost for journaled filesystems. In -mm5, request barriers are enabled by default for reiserfs and ext3. |
Might as well skip this version of love-sources and wait for the next one. Thanks for your hard work. |

I really want nvidia to update their drivers ...
anyways, this applies for my computer:
nvidia [5336|5341] + 2.6.6-mm1 works
nvidia [5336|5341] + 2.6.6-mm3, -mm4, -mm5, -love5 does not
(yes, I've handled regparm, 4k-stacks, and modpost when/where necessary)
Not working defined:
kernel compiles okay, nvidia-kernel emerges okay, system boots okay, nvidia module loads okay
when xdm (gdm) starts, screen goes black and then just hangs, no nvidia splash, no checkerboard texture, no keyboard response, no mouse -- have to use Alt+SysRq+K to get back to vc1 ...
If anyone has any ideas? Much appreciated ... |

i've had no problems with nvidia on love5.
*EDIT* it looks like 2.6.7-rc1 was just released, just a matter of time before 2.6.7-rc1-mm1 _________________ This post has been over explained for newb-informing purposes.

we'll find out soon enough but I would have thought, as love is a cutting edge patch, that the newer one would be far more fun to play with - hurrah for kernel updates |

I don't see any patches on kernel.org yet - neither for 2.6.7-rc1, nor for 2.6.6-mm6 - or am I missing something?

You have an nvidia card? If so, this is a known issue. You want to fix it? Use the nvidia version 4363 located at http://www.sh.nu/download/nvidia/linux-2.6/ |

I posted this in the last thread and nobody answered, so I'll try again here. In 2.6.6-love1 I can run warcraft 3 perfectly, but in any later version of kernel, the cd is not detected properly as being in the drive and I get the "no cd found" error. Are there any patches/changes known that would cause this? _________________ There is no substitute for experience.

Could it be that your 2.6.6-love1 has supermount enabled, while your other kernels do not? |
