I have tried oss drivers from opensound.com... and after I installed the new drivers, it tells me that it will be working only for 3 hours, but I can order a full licence on their website... http://www.opensound.com/order.html... 35$... what the hell does it means? I think I will installed alsa, but in the kernel, isn't oss drivers in core installed? is this the same driver or what's the differences?

Ahh, looks like you installed the 4Front tech drivers. And yes they're commercial.

What's your soundcard?

If it isn't supported by Alsa then 4Front is a good alternative. About 5 years back I bought a driver from them and their tech support was always good.

I think Open Sound System in the kernel itself is open source, it's just that 4Front makes commercial drivers that plug into it. There are non-ALSA drivers that use OSS that are also open source.

I have an sblive, it works great with any driver I used... But I am a developper and I want to make some soft that needs sounds. I am checking every info on drivers, and I think I will develop with alsa libs... Oss is quite dark to understand and openal is a poor quality. Did anyone installed alsa 0.9 rc5 and tell me what means all the entries in mixer?

You can also use http://sourceforge.net/projects/emu10k1/ with the soundblaster live. It works off of OSS and you can play with the source code.
