|
|
I am soon giving it up.
I made a stage1 install and kde is up runnig and almost everything else, too.
But I just can't get my framebuffer to work.
My machine:
AthlonXP 1700+
Geforce 3 Ti200 from Asus
Kernel 2.6.5 (gentoo-dev-sources)
Stuff I embedded into my kernel:
Code: |
Support fof framebuffer devices
VESA VGA graphics support
VGA text console
VGA text console
Video mode selection support
Framebuffer console support
select compiled-in fonts
VGA 8x8 font
VGA 8x16 font
Logo configuration
Bootup logo
// all 3 are active
Boot splash screen
|
I don't think I missed any kernel stuff.
I have "vga=794" in my grub.conf.
When I boot my kernel I get a error msg "Incorrect video mode" , or something like this. I am told to set one of the listed vesa modes. But all of them suck because they look like crap.
What could be my problem?
A friend of mine has the same kernel and grub settings and the framebuffer works without errors. _________________ There are 10 types of people.

I hade the same problem for a while. Look under Graphics support and make sure ONLY Support for frame buffer devices and VESA VGA graphics support are compiled. My problem went away when I removed all other. |

Thanks for trying to help me. But VESA is the only graphics mode that is active. Check the kernel config I wrote in the first post. These are the only active settings. All the other stuff (Riva, etc) is not compiled into my kernel. _________________ There are 10 types of people.

Could you try to add
Code: | video=vesafb:mtrr vga=0x317 |
and see if you get anything nice with that? |

BTW, that mode 0x317 I took from the Documentation/fb/vesafb.txt in the kernel dir.
Go check that file out - plenty of info, plus list of available modes. |
