Okay... I downloaded this driver for my winmodem and all, changed the lines in a file... https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=102971&highlight=agere <--- This thread will give you an idea as to what I'm talking about... Anyways, on the last reply it says to compile and load the module. How would I do this? |

I'm assuming you have to patch the kernel with this driver.
1. make sure you have the driver selected in your config file
2. make && make modules_install
3. reboot with new kernel, and either modprobe THE_DRIVER or add THE_DRIVER to /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6 before you reboot. |

Is the module a patch against a karnel, or is it a code tarball?
If its a patch, patch it, enable it in your kernel and do a make modules modules_install.
If its a code tarball, compile it as you would any other code, and if there is no make install, copy it to the correct directory.
To load a module do a modprobe <modulename>, or put in in your /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6 (if you use 2.6). |

Okay, thanks you guys. That seemed to get my modem working. Now I just have another problem. The modem dials too many numbers, even when I put the correct 7-digit number in. Some in the IRC chat suggested it was my modem itself since not ALL winmodems are compatible. I just want to make sure that's right before I go and buy a new modem. But, I don't think that fits with this topic... https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=183439&highlight= <--- Posted a new topic yesterday about this problem. |
