Today my desktop up and decided to stop mounting / read/write. Its a reiserfs partition, but i'm not sure what the problem is related to.
A few days ago this started showing up after emerges:
Code:
 * Caching service dependencies...
 *  Service 'vcron' already provide 'cron'!;
 *  Not adding service 'vixie-cron'...
 *  Can't find service 'checkfs' needed by 'localmount';  continuing...
 *  Can't find service 'checkroot' needed by 'modules';  continuing...
 *  Can't find service 'hostname' needed by 'modules';  continuing...
 *  Can't find service 'clock' needed by 'syslog-ng';  continuing...
 *  Can't find service 'hostname' needed by 'syslog-ng';  continuing...
 *  Can't find service 'bootmisc' needed by 'alsasound';  continuing...
 *  Can't find service 'clock' needed by 'vcron';  continuing...
 *  Can't find service 'clock' needed by 'vixie-cron';  continuing...

And after a game of ut2k4 had crashed (just the game, not the comp) things started acting fishy, like Eterm loseing transparency. I rebooted and it will no longer remount / rw.

relavent part of dmesg:
Code:
ReiserFS: hdb3: using ordered data mode
ReiserFS: hdb3: journal params: device hdb3, size 8192, journal first block 18,
max trans len 1024, max batch 900, max commit age 30, max trans age 30
ReiserFS: hdb3: checking transaction log (hdb3)
ReiserFS: hdb3: Using r5 hash to sort names
VFS: Mounted root (reiserfs filesystem) readonly.

I've booted of the livecd and fsch'ed the partition with no errors found, I even tried rebuilding the tree but that didn't seem to make a difference. I also remerged baselayout and coreutils, but still no go.

Any ideas?
Thanks, Joe

What kernel version are you using? Maybe it's a buggy version of ResierFS.

I fixed it by, turns out all the services its complaining about were missing from /etc/init.d, so I just ended up borrowing them from my laptop. Still curious of how they went missing in the first place, guess I can probably blame reiserfs on that.

I'm useing love sources, 2.6.6-rc3-love4. I just switched from gentoo-dev 2.6.1 a few weeks ago, so it might be from that.
