usb hd problem

i try to connect an usb hd for a while...
and it doesnt work at all
when its plugged, it makes bip, bip, bip...and freeze my PC...
ive compiled usb support, usb mass storage and i ve hotplug running...
there are two FAT32 partitions on the hd...
please help

Could you explain the 'bip bip bip' part a little more? I have an external USB enclosure that seems to have gone weird on me, and it flashes its activity LED at about 0.5 second intervals and makes a small clicking sound (and never does anything useful, of course). When I saw your post I wondered if what you're seeing is the same thing.
