Possibly a silly question, but have you got keyboard support enabled in your kernel?
Code: | Device Drivers --->
Input Device Support --->
<*> AT keyboard support # This is probably what you want, if it's an x86 laptop |

Boot with a liveCD, mount all your partitions, and chroot into your new system like you did when you installed. (You don't need to do any of the extra bits on the way this time though.) Then do the following:
Code: | cd /usr/src/linux
make menuconfig |
Then go to Device Drivers and hit enter, then Input Device Support, and scroll down a bit until you get to the section marked Keyboards. Check that the one that applies to your keyboard has an asterisk (*) in front of it. _________________ No-one's more important than the earthworm. |

Did you use genkernel to set up your kernel in the first place? _________________ No-one's more important than the earthworm. |

Ah. In that case the initrd should be loading the right module for you. Hmmm. Maybe you should look into making your own kernel? There are lots of threads about it here, and it really isn't that difficult at all! It might take a few goes to get it right, but such is life. I think this must be a genkernel problem, but I've never used it before, so I can't really help you with it I'm afraid... _________________ No-one's more important than the earthworm. |

This is quite strange... just to check, did you compile your kernel after putting support for it in there? _________________ No-one's more important than the earthworm. |
