Have you installed the drivers via Emerge or with the Nvidia installer?

Nvidia works perfectly in 2.6.7- too quick to call anything that doesn't work first time a bug...

emerge with ~x86 - nvidia-kernel
update your modules
run NVmakedevices

Many other things to try later...... or retry in different orders.....

rmmode nvidia
start NVmakedevices in local.start etc...

have you got agpgart in the kernel ? Some need it some don't
have you got bootsplash enabled? ditto
frambuffers?
these can all have some effects - many other posts outline them
it may be that one of these will help - a lot of these issues are hardware dependent and may work for some people but not ithers

do you have /dev/nvidia0 ?

don't give up yet

Search is you friend :)
