I had sound but now do not. I'm using kernel 2.6.7-gentoo-r7 which was recently installed. It isn't the modules because I can say Code: | aplay /usr/kde/3.2/share/sounds/pop.wav | and I get Quote: | Playing WAVE '/usr/kde/3.2/share/sounds/pop.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz, Mono | but without any sound. I have used alsamixer to unmute the Master and PCM channels. When I boot the machine I get beeps. I'm not sure how to proceed. Any ideas? Thanks. |

Hi,
i had to mute the channel "IEC958 Capture Monitor" to hear something.
Maybe this is specific to my on board sound (snd_via82xx) but its worth a try i think.
greetings,

Whoops! My bad. I have 2 sound cards. Somehow in the process of re-compiling the kernel the wrong soundcard became the card to which sound was being played.
Lesson: if aplay tells you it has played correctly but you don't hear sound, check to be sure your speakers are plugged into the soundcard. |
