I have a laptop with an ATI Mobility 9000. I emerged ati-drivers and it installed successfully. I then ran "opengl-update ati" and then ran the custom ATI config script "glrxconfig" (I think that's it.) I then rebooted my machine and all seemed to come up just fine until I wanted to drop to a console by hitting "ctrl+atl+F2." The system hard locked, no HDD activity, CPU... nothing. :-( I hit the power button and rebooted. It again went into X just fine. I rebooted the machine from X and again BAM, hard lock when killing the X server (assuming). Anyone have similar issues with ATI drivers and Mobility 9000? If so how would I go about fixing them. glxgears gives me 189.4 FPS without ATI drivers and 1229.6 FPS with drivers... you can see why I want to get this working! Thanks for your help in advance!

Sounds like the radeon framebuffer driver is enabled in the kernel. That kind of behaviour is pretty common when you use it and the ATI driver together. You can either use the VESA framebuffer driver instead of the radeon one, or else remove the ATI driver and use the "radeon" DRM driver, which as far as I know will work with the radeon framebuffer.
