On my system:
Via C3 Samuel 2 processor (1 giga pro)
SiS 630E bios
Gentoo-dev-sources-r11
the reboot command only stops all processes and halts the system. What should I do to make it actually reboot? |

After halt, does the machine actually turn off, or just sit there?
It could be waiting for a process which failes to stop or something.
I have seen problems like this before.
I recommend ensuring you have stopped X first, then performing the shutdown. _________________ Danny Staple, curator of http://orionrobots.co.uk

Do you have ACPI or APM compiled in the kernel?
Out of curiosity, what is the last message you see? |

I have ACPI compiled in the kernel. The last message I see is:
Restarting system.
NOT!!! I have to push the reset button to really get it to restart (FYI windoze has no problem with this) |
