ok,
i tried also the 2.6.8-rc2-vanilla kernel and i have the same problem!
same problem with these kernels too:
-gentoo-dev-sources-rX (all)
-mm-sources-2.6.7-r6
the only kernel at the moment that works is 2.6.7-rc3-love2
i don't understand the problem.... _________________ "...There are two sort of lies, lies and benchmarks..." |

I have a little problem with this release...
In heavy load conditions the mouse cursor stops to move for some seconds...I've already hear something similar, don't remember when/where.
I'm using the same kernel config since 2.6.5-love5 (the only difference is, at the moment, I stop using bootsplash), never had this kind of problems, any ideas? _________________ Gentoo ~amd64 on DELL XPS M1530 |

It a problem with np shecduler - he is testing the timeslice at the moment and it is set at 256.
Change the /proc/sys/kernel/base_timeslice to 64 or 32, I have it at 32 but also know people with it at 16.
Either way, change that and see if it makes a difference. |

can you tell me the module name and which option in make menuconfig
you enable to compile the driver you have problems with? |

Time slice, mmh, is this the time a process can run not interrupted?

Witn 32 seems better, not perfect, I'll try 16...
I use:
echo 32 > /proc/sys/kernel/base_timeslice
I suppose this change will be lost after reboot...
Is there an elegant (possibly) way to make this change permanent, without repeat it each reboot? _________________ Gentoo ~amd64 on DELL XPS M1530 |

Anyone get the bootsplash issues ironed out? I'm having the same problems, in addition to kernel error messages (vesafb: mode 1800x144016bpp not found) getting spewed onto the command line every couple of minutes...gets really annoying.
Everything worked properly in 2.6.7-love7 _________________ "We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately."

Nope, everything's the same in grub.conf as it was for 2.6.7-love7. The error message itself isn't the problem, I get that looking at dmesg in 2.6.7 (everything works, though)...But in 2.6.8-rc2-love1, I also get a framebuffer oops at bootup, and the kernel messages appear on my command prompt periodically. Bootsplash/framebuffer works, however, it just doesn't show up until the login prompt. _________________ "We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately."

bootsplash not showing up until the init script is called seems
to be shared by everyone.. even with the latest bootsplash
and vesa-tng patches.
i don't have a clue how to fix that. it might even be vanilla-
related. |

I also patched in swsusp2, it works... somewhat heh.. |
1)was there any rejects, while applying patch?
2)does system work correct?
ps maybe if there was rejects publish your patch. |
there were many rejects so i had to apply most of the patches by hand.. it works but not reliably so i'm not going to put it up.. I'm just going to patch my own kernels for my laptops with just swusps, nicksched, win4lin and a few odd patches.. |

I was wondering what was going on. I just reinstalled gentoo and my music would lag during compiling I thought I screwed up somewhere, I was looking all over trying to find why it was doing that. This fixed the problem and everything sound good now. THX |

I only seem to have problems with bootsplash.... the splash-image wont load at startup, only when bootsplash starts itself... which is not meant to be like that Sad
Anyone here knows what could be wrong?
[code]
code from grub
title Gentoo Love Sources Testing (2.6.8_rc2)r1
root (hd0,0)
kernel (hd0,0)/testing root=/dev/hda7 video=vesafb:ywrap,mtrr,vram:16,1024x768-16@60
initrd (hd0,0)/initrd-1024x768
|
same here, but I'll survive without bootsplash, when bootsplash starts itself I also have a strange display, seems to be the wrong resolution but as I said I'll survive without bootsplash, I have:
no more problems mounting my USB stick rw (yeah)
no more problems using my USB Joystick (yeaah!)
and I can finally reboot again! Didn't work since 2.6.7-love7 (YESSA!)
great love, THX! _________________ What do you have when you have six lawyers buried up to their necks in sand? Not enough sand.

Something I've been wondering for a while but haven't been able to find an answer to:
What's different about the vesa-rrc patch than the -tng? _________________ There is no substitute for experience.
