Best game of all time, so far ahead of its time -Starflight. Coming in a close second, the game I've logged over a year of actual playing time (no, really, a full 365+ days of clock time IN the game) - Everquest. Sad, I wish I could have that time back, but boy was it fun while it lasted.

After that, my list of best games over the past 25 years, in the order I remember them:
Bards Tale (so simple, yet so entertaining, true story-telling in a game)
Kings Quest (all of them - nothing like having a pixelated RGB witch come along in a crazy car and you still jump out of your seat)
Maniac Mansion (another seat jumper)
Test Drive (I and II)
X-Wing
Doom
Quake
Coimmand and Conquer
Civilization
Unreal Tournament

I'm a major retro-gamer myself. My favourites:

Megaman (X3 and Rockman and Forte are my favourites)
Wing Commander (WC1 or WC2 mostly, but they're all excellent)
Legend of Zelda (pre-N64 ones, plus Oracles)
Diablo 2 (too damn addictive...remember the name Shadow Weaver, we'll give you something that will go even beyond it one day)
Final Fantasy (up to and including 8)
Descent (2 rocked...why must they have killed 4?)
Ragnarok Online (if only there was such a thing as a GOOD, LARGE private server...I've long since quit due to that, and haven't played on Gravity's servers in years)
Various NES, SNES, and GBA RPGs

Sadly there is NOTHING new on that list, really. My favourite new games are the Megaman Zero and Megaman Battle Network series. I play a bit of UT 2004, but meh. I'm not big on shooters.

I'm looking for something good, free, and massively multiplayer, if such a thing exists. If not, I'll go start on that. :P

Games I've played seriously over the past 10 years or so:

mudding (addicted from 94-97)
Everquest (transferred addiction from mudding, burned out after dying in Sol A one day)
Dark Age of Camelot (Beta tested, name listed in the manual)
ZAngband (especially ZAngbandTK, now very scarce to find)
Unreal Tournament (perhaps the first FPS I got my wife to play and enjoy with me)
Global Operations (best gameplay ever, crappy netcode and now dead community)
Battlefield 1942 (played since day 1 of demo and only stopped when I killed XP on my box)

Games I play now:
Enemy Territory (I suck)
Americas Army (I suck)
[and when I get it working under Cedega properly] BF1942/BF:V (I kick ass)

Farcry blew goats. It looked pretty, but it was pretty much about all it did. The Single Player game, even on the hardest diffuculty setting was a breeze and multiplayer was a joke.

Diablo 1 & 2, Divine Divinity, Lemmings, Warcraft 3, Star Control 2, One Must Fall, Star Saga, Raptor, Tyrian, Starcraft, Alpha Centauri, Freespace 2, X-Com series, Quest for Glory, Crusader, Syndicate, Doom (original), Dune 2, Deus Ex....

I'm interested that the average age of that list is about 1998. Personally I don't feel the gaming industry is advancing anywhere - there's so much less innovation. It's too dangerous, it's easier just to make a mediocre FPS (and most of them ARE mediocre, where Doom was transcendental).

Agree with Archangel1.

In my opinion game should be interesting to play and this is not always just excellent graphic effects and stuff.

Fist person Game should have an idea, scenario(not just shoot everything you see around). It should make you realize that you're not just looking at the monitor at home or elswhere, but YOU are actually the person iside this GAME.
Recent FPS games are losing grip, you know.

Also like games where it is up to you what to do & where to go now, and that is actually the reason I'm playing Morrowind 3 now(although I actually bought it 3 years ago)....

Well, I'm not an up to date player...cause I may discover game after 5 years it has been released.
I'm playing Neverwinter Nights now...and it is AMAZING !

Also looks like today many programmers or game publishers keep on forgetting to include appropriate Scenario in the game, apart from Amazing graphix or else....

Cheers !

Amiga:
Wings
Megalomania
Zak McKracken
Monkey Island Series

PC:
Neverwinter Nights
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Enemy Territory
Populous
Operation Flashpoint

Loved all of these games, and I spent an unhealthy amount of time playing them. :)

I'm currently trying to get through Super Mario World (aka "Mario 4") on SNES again. That game still rocks. So far I'm at 68 of 99 levels completed. The special zone is so much harder than I remember! :)

Also on SNES was "Legend of Gaia". Possibly the only RPG I could ever get the hang of, and enjoyed thoroughly.

And then of course there's my MAME cabinet.... :)

I miss Sonics under Sega Mega Drive...

But I thing the game I played the most was C&C Red Alert or Sega Mega Drive Desert Strike! :)

ShadowRun for genesis is one of my favorites.
Friday the 13th. It's kinda masochistic. I still can't beat it and yet, it's stragely addictive in it's difficulty.

Under Linux I prefer Quake 3 Arena, Cube. Ah well...I'm kinda boring. Still lookin g for a linux tribes 2 CD.
