Last night I was trying to get my nvidia driver working on kernel 2.6.7 r11. I even went so far as to unmerge both nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx. Then I installed the latest version 1.0.6106 r3 of both. Then when I try changing to have X use that driver I get an error somthing like the nvidia driver is the wrong version for the kernel module I have installed.

It says the driver is the 1.0.4xxx version. I thought nvidia-kernel WAS the driver. What is going on here. I didnt have any problems with nvidia's drivers until I switched to 2.6.7 of gentoo-dev-sources. Then I got the error that the module was an improper format or something like that. So I upgraded to the latest which made that error go away when I loaded the module but now the driver wont load. Anyone else having these issues? Anyone solve them? HELP!!!!

With Mandrake, in order to make nvida driver to be properly installed it was necessary to be sure that the kernel and kernel-source version match each other.
Sorry to ask this stupid question, but have you changed the driver to ΅nvidia" in your XF86Config-4 or xorg.conf file?

Yes..... Wait, I think I just figured out whats going on. I can't believe I didnt check this. The nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx versions were not the same. I just installed the same versions. I will check if it works when I get home and let you know. Thanks again.

not sure what sort of use flags you are using but you need the ~x86 versions of nvidia-kernel nvidia-glx and opengl-update, as long as you have those 3 specified you should be able to
Code:
emerge nvidia-kernel nvidia-glx
just fine

you would need the same versions of both, but your problem might have been that you didnt do "opengl-update nvidia"
