YAWKQ - Yet another which kernel question..
I've got a system thats just done with stage 2 (emerge -e system) which has gcc-3.4.1 installed and libc with nptl. I've also emerged udev which I'm planning to use if I figure it out
Now, I was first planning to use ck- or gentoo-dev-sources, but since I've gone out and implemented npl and gcc-3.4 (not that hard though following the forum threads) I was wondering which kernel would suite my system best for day to day use (normal internet/office/some gaming/programming).
Reading on the forum I also find posts talking about xx-sources, love-, wolk-, evil-sources etc. This is not my first time installing/compiling a kernel so let me in on the "secrets" I want a fast responsive kernel (who doesn't!!) Any suggestions?
System specs:
- P4 2,66GHz@533 (Shuttle XPC SS51G)
- 512MB DDR333
- GeForce 3 Ti500
- 120GB ATA 100
- DVD+-RW (NEC 2500A).

Hi there!
I use love-sources and recommend them! They're fast and behaving nice on my system (AMD 2000+ && nVidia). Just my $0.02 _________________ Believe the lie |

Maybe I will Where do I get an ebuild for love-sources? or do I have to manually patch a vanilla 2.6.x kernel? |

I have very good experiences with xx-sources, which is why I recommend them _________________ "Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves." - Abraham Lincoln

Thanks. Now I got both love and xx.
Will try them both when my acovea script finishes (tomorrow sometime)
Update/Question: acovea gave me a kernel panic so I'm now trying the sources earlyer than I though. I've downloaded xx-sources ebuild and placed it in '/usr/local/portage'. I then tried to run an emerge, but get an error: Code: | slix portage # emerge -pv /usr/local/portage/xx-sources-2.6.7-r5.ebuild
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies \!!! aux_get(): ebuild for 'local/xx-sources-2.6.7-r5' does not exist at:
!!! /usr/portage/local/xx-sources/xx-sources-2.6.7-r5.ebuild
emerge: create(): aux_get() error on local/xx-sources-2.6.7-r5; aborting... |
Any directions? |
