I have an IBM T42. I read somewhere that the correct driver module for its on board sound is snd-intel8x0
I loaded that in /etc/module.autoload.d/kernel-2.6
modprobe has no problem, but /dev/sound/ is still an empty folder with no mix0 or whatever...?
Help? |

did you disable it in the BIOS? If sound doesn't work for linux, at least I want my parallel port works with my winxp dual boot. My printer (an old one) only has parallel... |

Check your dmesg - mine was posting some messages in there. I got it working eventually - so long as I loaded the snd-intel8x0m module first. I've got no idea what the issue was actually about though. |

Those lines are basically exactly what I get when the modules loads successfully (slightly different number of usecs, which I can't see being important).
I think that's about the end of my expertise, sorry. Once I'd got mine loading okay it created everything in /dev and all was good. |
