nope i did not need to remove anything from the sources to get it to compile, i patched it cleanly and properly and it worked first try. _________________ ArchLinux 64 Dev | 2.6.14 AMD64 |

And if any of you have any other experiences outside of nvida-kernel locking up X i suggest disabling ACPI in the kernel. (Power Management). _________________ ArchLinux 64 Dev | 2.6.14 AMD64 |

I think it should be bzcat, not bzchat (without the 'h').
/me is sad though. I can't digest it: Code: | root@peter-computer /root # ebuild /usr/local/portage/sys-kernel/love-sources/love-sources-2.6.8_rc4-love2.ebuild digest
!!! Name error in love2
!!! Error: PF is null 'love-sources-2.6.8_rc4-love2'; exiting.

The main difference (apart from the actual patches applied and you'll have to look at the patch list for each love release for that) is that, as the name suggests, they are applied to different kernels.
For example, the rc4-love2 is applied to 2.6.8-rc4 and rc2-love3 is applied to 2.6.8-rc2 (in between the rc2 and rc4 release was another kernel, the 2.6.8-rc3).
Actually, 2.6.8 final was released today so you may want to wait a couple of days for new patchsets to come out for the vanilla kernel.
HTH
note:
For those that use reiser4, new reiser4progs and libaal (both now at version 1.0.0) are in portage.
I would recommend updating these extremely important progs asap. |

but i'm gonna skip this release, as i'm using -nitro for staircase already and would like -love with np in it. but good work anyway. looking forward to 2.6.8-love1 _________________ Out of silence, a story. Out of chaos, order. Out of nothingness, love...

hi,
thanx for the latest love, works here.
Anyway, since 2.6.8 is out, there´s a lot of work for you guys
I´ve just managed to fix the hunks from 2.6.8-rc4-mm1 with kernel 2.6.8, but applying latest love to that gives me too much errors |

The "rc" stands for "release candidate" - the pre-release testing versions of the next linux kernel 2.6.8
So rc4 has received more testing than rc2. Love sources keep the rc number from the kernel from which they are derived, and add their own -loveX version, to distinguish between bugfix releases, new versions based on mm sources, new patchsets released subsequently, and indeed unreleased testbed versions.
So rc4-love2 is later than rc2-love3 because the rc number takes precendence. As for stability; this is love-sources - everybody's mileage may vary. _________________ Don't let THEM immanentize the Eschaton! |

For the comments about np:
We use whats fastest at the moment, as soon as np is faster again we will use it again. |

I am also getting kernel OOPs when it remounts my reiser 4 filesystem in init. it is segfaulting while triing to run checkfs.
I have large keys enabled, tried turning them off, but... that dosn't work because the filesystem is then binary incompatible.
Any insights? _________________ The terrible thing about hell is that when you're there you can't even tell as you move through this life you love so you could be there and not even know |

We've been trying to pinpoinbt this checkfs problem to the point of start but we don't know what's causing the segfault. I will continue searching for a solution to this problem. _________________ ArchLinux 64 Dev | 2.6.14 AMD64 |

Thanks..
I have not had a working love since 2.6.6-r4, but havent had a chance to track anything down (I think most of it is relating to SMP)
I can confirm thought at just 2.6.8_rc4-mm1 w/ reiser4 added work for me .
is there a way to get access to a broken out patch to save on some time, and possibly help pinpoint what has been casing my problems.
good job.. even thought I have had issues _________________ The terrible thing about hell is that when you're there you can't even tell as you move through this life you love so you could be there and not even know |

Something to do with atomic writes? This is my first time trying Reiser4 (I got a new harddisk, so I thought, hey, why not?)...
Here's the commands I used to get the segfault:
Code: | root@chaos amackenzie # cd /mnt/temp
root@chaos temp # ls
123.txt
root@chaos temp # rm 123.txt
Segmentation fault
root@chaos temp # |
The partition (/dev/sdb1) is mounted to /mnt/temp without any apparant errors. |

would those providers of patches be so kind to ALWAYS write down what the patch is based on (ALL STAGES!) - example:
linux-2.6.7
patch-2.6.8 (or is it 2.6.8.1 !? because w/ 2.6.8 the love patch doesn't work)
patch-xyz (which one?)
THANX!

Hello, could someone explain things for me
I download the love file from SF, i take it from its size it is a kernel patch?
If it is a patch what kernel does it patch?
How do i apply patch as it is compressed file?

it patches against mm, and it is always the 2.6.x-mm or 2.6.x_rcx-mm, the name tells all.
for instance this version:
2.6.8_rc4-love2
2.6.8_rc4 patched with
2.6.8_rc4-mm1
(this one is different than usual, but not that hard to deduce. under normal circumstances that would probibley be mm2, but it is not there, and it was explained in the thread)
then the love patch
good luck..
if you are using gentoo, you could just grab the ebuild, and not worry about it _________________ The terrible thing about hell is that when you're there you can't even tell as you move through this life you love so you could be there and not even know |

Well, as the name suggests (Love-Sources 2.6.8-rc4-love2) it applies to 2.6.8-rc4.
It is not against the mm-patchset which is a patchset approved by Linus to go on the standard kernel (phlashback, may I suggest you at least know what kernel you are using )
Many love-sources do go on mm-patchsets but quite a few, especially recently, do not.
There is a comprehensive how to in the tips & tricks section of the forums and a comprehensive how to on the love sources site on applying the patch if you don't use Gentoo, or just want to apply it by hand (if you do use Gentoo the ebuild may help in installing it).
[edit]
changed typo of 7 to 8 - thanks phlashback

oops, my bad, I must have been working 16 hr days for the last 2 weeks, and not been on top of love (and the switch away from mm).
I know what kernel I'm using, and it is not love , because everything after 2.6.6-love4 has not played nice with SMP (at least on my box)
I notice that this love is listed as based on 2.6.7_rc4, but the title of the thread is 2.6.8_rc4-love2, and looking at kernel.org, I find a 2.6.7_rc3, and a 2.6.8_rc4. So what kernel are you using?
looing at it emerge
Code: |
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) patch-2.6.8-rc4.bz2
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) linux-2.6.7.tar.bz2
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) 2.6.8-rc4-love2.bz2
|
I'll know what kernel I'm using when you figure out which one you are
Sorry if i was a it rude, but just got into a row with my GF _________________ The terrible thing about hell is that when you're there you can't even tell as you move through this life you love so you could be there and not even know |

No noobism committed. The makefile for the latest love still have the EXTRAVERSION string set for the previous (testing only) version.
It's an easy thing to overlook in the release process, it seems.
If it's causing problems, edit the makefile and then rebuild. _________________ Don't let THEM immanentize the Eschaton! |

4K or 8K stack refer to the size of a memory page 4K or 8K. in general for desktop usage it doen't make much diffrence(unless you have many process), it makes quite a diffrence on servers or computers in general that have many processes active (many services or apps loaded/started) or small amount of RAM installed into the computer in cause, because of better memory allocation/usage (pretty much as in filesystem when refering to the cluster size)
as for write barriers take a look at the first page -> yes _________________ Cand nu stii ce sa raspunzi sau ce sa spui un simplu BLA ajunge... lolz |
