|
|
I have installed net-www/netscape-flash 6.0b which is described as a "Shockwave Flash" player. It plays Flash animations fine but asks for another plugin for application/x-director when trying to play some kids' games.
AFAICT from the Macromedia web site, there are 2 players -

On the Macromedia download page there are two players for some OSs but not others; eg no Shockwave Player for Linux.
Any info anyone? |

There is a standalone flashplayer for linux from Macromedia.
http://www.macromedia.com/software/flashplayer/special/beta/#linux
It is a binary for RedHat 7.3 and does not work on GCC3.2 systems.
Code: |
flashplayer: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
|
But i have downloaded a beta version of the player some weeks ago, that was compiled with GCC3 and works great here.
Unfortunately i can't remember where to find this version exactly. It had been somewhere on Macromedias site.. _________________ Computer games don't affect kids. I mean if Pacman affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive music. |

It's in portage:
/usr/portage/net-www/netscape-flash/netscape-flash-6.0b-r1.ebuild _________________ Talk is cheap because supply always exceeds demand. |

the linux version is strictly a flash player. The only way that I know of to play shockwave games on linux is to use the crossover plugin. |

Thanks to all. Yes my Flash plays OK, just the games that need the x-director plugin don't work.
If what jimmybfan says is correct it bears out what I thought was the case.
Unless anyone else knows any different. |

Yup...need Crossover plugin and run the Windows shockwave player...
However, it does works awesomely well. Only thing really is that it doesn't work really well with the weirdo extensions required by some fancier 3d shockwave extensions stuff. Beyond that, works fine... Seems to have the same problem as Java plugin and the like though, you will need to either run it in Konqueror, or use a GCC2.X version of Mozilla or whatever... I personaly emerged the phoenix-bin ebuild and it works fine it it.... |
