|
|
I was just looking at the online packages database and noticed x86-fbsd and x86-obsd archs. I realized these must stand for freebsd and openbsd on x86 hardware. However, I was curious as to what Gentoo was planning to do in the bsd os space. Any ideas? I may have missed an announcement in one of the newsletters. |

Yes, Portage runs on BSD. I'm using it now. Nothing in the newsletters yet, since it's definitely still in its infancy as a project. You can get a rough estimate of progress if you want from the TODO list, or have a look in #gentoo-bsd. |

Do you want to run portage on freebsd, or do you want to install gentoo/freebsd? We're changing slightly more than the package management (initscripts, etc). Either way, probably the best place to start is at the wiki, or Ka0TTiC's install guide. If you run into problems (which, given the state of things, you probably will ), the best (only) place for help is probably in #gentoo-bsd on freenode. Have fun! |

is there a solaris option in there yet for portage yet, it is mentioned but doesnt seem to have an option
i heard about portaris a while back and ive only recently started looking at solaris partialy because it may be getting opensourced and because i was looking to buy a book and kind of objected to paying £40 for a linux book which would be less informative than these forums _________________ Giay tay nam | Giay nam cao cap | Giay luoi |

Should Gentoo Linux be renamed to Gentoo System or just Gentoo? Since there are arch's other than Linux supported by portage system.
BTW, Will portage run on Cygwin or MingW? |
