check the following:
-AC97 Capture is unmuted and up
-Mic is unmuted and up
-Wave Capture is unmuted and up
Works for my SB Live! There were threads about this (but I don't remember where I saw them). _________________ 60s: sex, drugs, rock'n'roll

I have the same problem. I've looked in the forums quite a bit, and most people who have a similar problem can at least hear themselves. I can't hear myself or record. I've turned up the three things you suggested, and I'm still having the problem. My kernel is 2.4.25. All my other sound works great. I use ALSA with OSS emulation configured. This is the last thing I need to fix before my Gentoo box is completely up and running. Does anybody have any solutions? Thanks.

Mine works fine with nothing special up in alsamixer, maybe it is something wrong in your config files? _________________ I think that the forums are the greatest thing about Gentoo, thanks to everyone that posts on them!

OK, I just realized that these problems might have something to do with it: While the PCI hotplugging is starting at bootup, I get an error saying it can't load module i810_audio. Also, when I update-modules, I get:
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.25-gentoo-r1/kernel/drivers/scsi/sata_sil.o
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.25-gentoo-r1/kernel/drivers/scsi/sata_svw.o
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.25-gentoo-r1/kernel/drivers/scsi/sata_via.o
This has been happening since I loaded the intel8x0 module. Now that I look at it, I guess I should have put that up earlier... Do these errors seem related to the problem?
