Guys, just a word for the warning to you all. I used to have 16-bit color depth (long story), and with xorg, transparency looked really ugly. It appears that whatever was under the transparent window was getting rendered in 8-bit color. So if you have 16-bit color, change it to 24-bit. Although you still lose 8 bits on whatever's -under- the transparency, it's better. _________________ Registered Linux User #263260 |

LostControl,
No I haven't, but I'm re-emerging now.
Now how can I fix my Helvetica font problem and gtk1.x? _________________ GCC 3.4.2-r2

The only glitch I can see is shading and unshading windows in XFce4 is flaky.
I have to unshade then move them around to get them to show..
EDIT: Odd - Only happens when using xcompmgr - Crappy.
EDIT2 2: Hmm I've been running this and I've run into all sorts of little quirks..
Hele- something font won't load (XMMS' Default playlist font).
XMMS wouldn't load with the GTK1 theme I used
Resizing something leaves fragments of what was once there.
Pretty slow here (I'm running an old GF2 PCI card so that's not shocking.)
I can't seem to ctrl+alt+F1.
I'm considering switching back to x86 Xorg.

For some reason I can't get that emerge to work.. i tried "~amd64" "amd64" "~x86" and "x86" and still says its masked >.<
Code: | bash-2.05b# ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~amd64 amd64 x86 ~x86" emerge xcompmgr transset
Calculating dependencies
!!! all ebuilds that could satisfy "xcompmgr" have been masked.
!!! possible candidates are:

I really don`t like making windows transparent with transset`s mouse clicking.
If somebody is interested in " transset opacity window_name " , I`ve done simply modyfication of transset to use it like this.

Glibc 2.3.4 +NPTL
GCC 3.4.1-r2
Xorg 6.7.99.904
Can someone tell me why GTK1 apps crash X?
It complains Helvetica and Lucida fonts are missing, what happened to them?
Xorg 6.7.0-r2 worked perfectly. _________________ GCC 3.4.2-r2

Did you emerge it with the bitmap fonts USE flag? I didn't, and my Helvetica is gone too, so maybe it's a bitmap font. |

does anyone actually have any clue on when the final will be released? I'ld hate to d/l the 904 now, just to see that the final will be release in just a few days time... (my ISP caps my d/l's )
According to the release plan found here it should've been released already, but I can't seem to find it just yet... |

Since upgrading to xorg-x11-6.7.99.904 my sun-jdk isn't very happy Acroread is also broken. Accessing a web page that contains java causes Firefox to crash. Does anyone have a solution for this?
Edit:
Read message above some of this may be solved by emerging imlib2. Here though is the result of revdep-rebuild -p before I re-emerge imlib2:
broken /opt/sun-jdk-1.4.2.05/jre/lib/i386/libfontmanager.so (requires libawt.so libjava.so libjvm.so)

broken /opt/Acrobat5/Reader/intellinux/plug_ins/AcroForm.api (requires libXp.so.6)
I'll let you know if imlib2 solves it.
Edit again:
That didn't solve it. |

Put "xprint" in you USE flags and emerge xorg-x11 again |

Xorg, in its most recent incarnations, has known problems with Gtk 1.x apps. Just look at the Xorg mailing list for the gory details.
So if you absolutely need Gtk 1.x apps, revert to stable Xorg (6.7.0) and wait for the next stable release. _________________

Thanks, I'll give it a try.
Edit:
I did this and also did "env-update && source /etc/profile" it is now working again.

Yeah, firefox doesnt seem to want to work without libXp.so.6 either... There's a libXp.so.6.2 but a symlink doesn't fix the problem, as firefox is statically-linked...
The devs have said on some occasions that there would be a deprecated libs package for these kinds of libraries, hopefully they'll all work it out in time for the release. _________________ Platypus. |

You must use variable : +xprint and no -xprint for emerge xorg _________________ Macbook Pro Unibody 9.1 - Kernel 4.4.6 - Awesome 3.5 |
