Allora, innanzitutto ciao a tutti. Ho appena finito di installare tutto, faccio il reboot e parte grub; scelgo gentoo e appena cambia schermata, dopo poche righe esce la seguente:
| Code: | | uncompressing linux... Ok, booting the kernel |
e qui tutto si ferma. Qualcuno ha qualche idea sul perchè di questo comportamento?
Ho installato gentoo utilizzando il livecd universal 2004.2 dallo stage3, il mio PC ha cpu athlon-xp 3000+, 512 mb di ram, scheda madre asus a7v8x, dico fisso SATA Matrox da 80 Gb. Grazie anticipatamente a tutti,

Con cosa hai compilto il kernel? A mano o genkernel? Sicuro di aver messo tutte le opzioni necessarie? Mi ricorda il problema che avevano molti ai tempi delle beta del kernel 2.6, quando puntualmente non compilavano alcune opzioni relative ai terminali.

Il grub.conf l'ho segnato e è questo:

come vedete ho il dual boot con windows il quale funzia benissimo. In /boot ho :
/boot/kernel-2.4.26-gentoo-r6
/boot/initrd-2.4.26-gentoo-r6
altro non l'ho segnato e visto che non riesco a boottare non so dirvelo.
Per la compilaizone del kernel ho usato genkernel.
Domanda: ma riesco a entrare in gentoo per fare eventuali cambiamenti o devo ripetere linstallazione da capo??

Certo che puoi, basta che avvii dal livecd che hai usato per l'installazione ripetendo più o meno gli stessi passi dell'installazione fino al chroot (ovviamente senza formattare, partizionare o decomprimere tar.gz). Una volta nel chroot sarà come essere nella tua bella gentoo. Se invece devi solo leggere o modificare qualche file, basta che avvii dal livecd, monti le partizioni che ti servono e accedi ai file.
Se hai compilato con genkernel le opzioni che dicevo dovrebbero essere ok, magari se te la senti configura e compila a mano il kernel, in ogni caso ci guadagni (kernel più personalizzato e compatto, etc)

Sono riuscito a entrare, e confermo tutto quello ceh ho scritto in precedenza: il grub.conf è come quello sopra e in /boot ho:
grub
kernel-2.4.26-gentoo-r6
initrd-2.4.26-gentoo-r6
