I have finally installed gentoo after four days !!!!!! but i am at the most basic level. I cannot install any packages without my network connect. eth0 fails when i try to use iface_eth0="dhcp". If i set all the settings myself from boot it initializes, but i cant get a connection still. ive tried so many different changes i jus dont know what worked at one time anymore, im really confused. Can anyone help with this? I had a connection a few times in the last few days to emerge sync and such, but today i havent had it in the actual installation. How do i configure this network now?!??

Could you explain your setup a bit more ?
How do you connect to the internet ? Does your box connect to a router which handles the actual connection ? |

ok so here is the deal. I was able to make some headway kinda...
first it seems eth0 is defined as my firewire ports. i have an onboard SiS900 nic that is listed in lspci but modprobe shows mod not found. I went into menuconfig and turned that module on and recompiled but still no connection. I have a surfboard cable modem going to a netgear /b wireless router which splits between a laptop and the gentoo box. if config now gives eth0 and lo. lo has RX and TX values but eth0 is 0. i set the addys for eth0 myself, but like i said i dont think that is my network card. i havent tried dhcp for eth0 since i inserted the new mod. anyone have an idea bout this. I have been googling, IRCing, and posting on this forum but im still pretty much where i was at when i started.
