XMAME too fast?!

I'm having a bit of trouble getting XMAME-0.60.1 working properly. When I render it with .xgl several problems pop up. There's a diagonal line that runs from the upper left to lower right of the screen, the sound is terrible, and some games run at 200+% FPS. When I render with .sdl the sound and video quality is good but some games run too slowly, others too fast. I know it's not the roms because they all run very well in windows with .60.1 mame32. Any gueses?
