I've just read on www.gentoo.org, that all installations of 1.4rc2 will be fully upgradable to 1.4rc3/final.
What will be about all installations of 1.4rc1 - will we be able to upgrade to 1.4rc3/final by regulary doing an "emerge -u world" or do we have to reinstall the whole system (or do a "script-based" upgrade like from 1.2 to 1.4rc1) ?
Thanks a lot

I think all you will need to do is an emerge -u world ? |

I was thinking the same - but then I read the news on www.gentoo.org - he explicitly writes about 1.4rc2 being upgradable - nothing about 1.4rc1. I'm a bit confused about this... _________________ Dort wo schwarzer Rauch aufsteigt, sich alsbald ein Fehler zeigt.

I'm wondering if I need to do anything special to get my gnetoo 1.4rc1 to gentoo 1.4rc2? _________________ Open your mind. Open your source.

It's probably just a change in baselayout. I don't think there are any drastic profile changes. |

And how would one upgrade from 1.2 to 1.4rc2? |

Assuming that the 1.4rc2 = 1.4rc1 + new baselayout conjecture is true,
1.2 -> 1.4rc1 ~= 1.2 -> 1.4rc2
However, that equation is more of an approximation. |

Ok, I asked a senior developer of Gentoo and he told me that also all installations of 1.4rc1 will be upgradable to the final version.
Just lean back and regulary do an emerge -u world and one fine day you will have 1.4final.
The news on www.gentoo.org was a bit confusing, and a lot of users had the same question as me, too. _________________ Dort wo schwarzer Rauch aufsteigt, sich alsbald ein Fehler zeigt.
