So yeah... I went and downloaded the universal live cd...
And now I'm at the bootstrapping process.
Now, the problem is in the fact that my PC ONLY has a wireless card, and there are no wired cards that I can steal for this.
Now, I thought that the object behind downloading the universal CD was to avoid having to download anything else. I mean, correct me if I'm wrong...
So now I'm faced with a possible dilemma... How do I continue on with the bootstrapping? _________________ ------------------------------------------------------

Well that's good an all... but isn't the idea of having a universal CD is that I could go ahead and install Gentoo WITHOUT ever connecting to the net? _________________ ------------------------------------------------------

Yeah... see the problem is, I'm using that exact guide. I had it beside me the entire time.
I did the portage thing, un-tar ed it to the appropriate directory and everything. The ONLY part in the guide that I skipped was the part where you set up the network configuration. And I only skipped it because I only have a wireless card in there.
I'm thinking, that the only thing I have to do is SOMEHOW tell the bootstrap.sh to look at the cd/hdd somewhere to find what it's looking for... The only problem lies within the fact that I have NO idea on how to accomplish that.
Mind you, that little theory of mine is probably wrong... Especially since I'm fairly new to the whole linux thing. I've installed a few distros, but NEVER have I done ANYTHING this in-depth.
So yeah... If you have some pointers, that'd be great.... Thanks. _________________ ------------------------------------------------------

you can copy the necessary bootstrap sources to /usr/portage/distfiles. look at the guide mentioned above. http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=1&chap=5#installing_from_LiveCD |

could just use stage 2 or 3 if you aren't changing the CHOST flag.
or make sure you set your distfile and package directories in your make.conf
Code: | DISTDIR="${PORTDIR}/distfiles" |
Code: | PKGDIR="${PORTDIR}/packages" |
but it sounds to me that you may have just mistyped something when you were copying the source code over. i would check the heirarchy of your /usr/portage directory and make sure nothing is duplicated like portage/portage or /portage/distfiles/distfiles/ etc. its been known to happen |
