Weird. Getting random hard locks while in X. Seems to correlate with high disk usage (reiser4) but no confirmationon that. I do not experience them using 2.6.9-rc2-mm3.
No word on the radeon with vesa-tng as I sort out the locks. |

baaa vesafb-tng is broken.... anyway, i compiled it with Radeonfb and added:
video=radeonfb:ypan,1280x1024-32@60
to grub.conf....and it works fine, i even got it to run @75herz - something that didn't work with vesafb-tng in love-sources.... |

Same here. 2.6.8.1-nitro6 is the best one that works.
The 2.6.9-rc* even kill my laptop when I use the volume buttons on the front of my Armada E500, it just hardlocks then and I need to hard-reset it.
Back to 2.6.8.1-r6 for me, and I think im staying there for a while |

I was having all sorts of problems with the previous 2.6.9 nitros as well, but rc3-nitro2 is rock solid so far, as well as noticeably more responsive than 2.6.8.1-nitro5. I'm not trying this one until more people report back, though, as per usual.
seppe - would it be possible to have some sort of changelog in the post about (a) the major changes since the last nitro, and (b) the major changes in the kernel revision itself? It'd be nice to know what to expect without having to read lkml . _________________ Work is punishment for failing to procrastinate effectively.

Illissius: are you using reiser4 by any chance? Any lockups under high load (like emerge sync and compiling a new kernel)? |

I made an addon patch, see my original post. If anyone knows how to get it working with a Dell Inspiron 8600 + ATI mobile radeon 9600, let me know

I'll try, but I don't have much time lately to read LKML so much _________________ nitro-sources, because between stable and experimental there exists only speed

Yup, reiser4 here. I'm getting hard locks with this latest nitro when under high load (climateprediction.net). Occasionally the desktop will become extremely sluggish, stuttering mouse movements etc until I drop it out from full load. |

Haven't tested it yet, but I hacked in an alsa update patch (apply on top of nitro) which updates the kernel drivers to the latest (unstable) version. Test at your own risk, but I usually find the snapshots to be quite stable. Also, you'll need to have CONFIG_KMOD set in order to compile it without unknown symbol crap.
Patch
Enjoy. _________________ There is no substitute for experience.

I have this same problem.
I fixed it by going to /dev/ide/hostX/busX/targetX/lunX/disc and changing ther permissions. This strikes me as the wrong way to do things though. Is this because of a missing patch?
I am using udev now and I have to admit I can't remember if I have burned a dvd since I switched, so maybe I am pointing fingers in the wrong direction by blaming the kernel?
Other than that though things work fine so far, thanks again! |

Wow. Through all the updates nitro has gone through, I found out I had over 6 nitro-sources installed. After I 'emerge -C' all but 2.6.8.1-nitro6 (my stable) I'm installing this one. _________________ jabber: MighMoS@jabber.org

Could you please add the alps touchpad driver to the next nitro. It does not patch cleanly and the trivial fixes for each build are starting to irritate me.
Many thanks |
