It works fine with 2.6.7, for days, or weeks continuosly. So i don't think so... |

I think it was a joke about the stability of windows....
At least I took it as that, what with the smiley and all, made me laugh anyway |

Xp, what's that!?
This kernel works great, but vmware doesn't work too well with it .... no sg devices available. I guess to do with suid access to scsi device bug. _________________ Tyan Tiger K8W, 2xOpteron 240,Powerbook5,6 15" 1.5g, Macbook Black 2g, Mac Mini 1g, Ipod P60g.

Hello,
I would like to know if nitro sources has the swappiness patch. This patch enables one to control the swappiness of the virtual manager (vm). All the other kernels I have used, including the vanilla one, allow me to do this. But unfortunately, I can't seem to be able to do this using nitro-sources. Perhaps, I didn't compile the kernel with right configuration options.
So if anyone is kind enough, could you point me to the kernel configuration option I need to control swappiness? Or direct me to where I can get and install the patch. By the way, I love nitro-sources, but controlling the swappiness on my machine has been vital for its responsiveness. Thanks for your efforts, and thanks in advance for anyones' suggestions.

Yeah, that Win XP was meant to be a joke
Anyway, this nitro is the best nitro since 2.6.9-rc2-nitro1! Only one thing, there's that bug in mapped_watermark6 patch and sometimes kswapd0 CPU-usage is 99%.

Curious, having only installed gentoo-dev-sources and love-sources...Installing Nitro sources, would I go the same route as the love-source method? Make the directory in portage overlay and then "ebuild <package>.ebuild digest" and then emerge? |

I booted a kernel I compiled from these sources and I have a major problem. My boot time is like..... forever. Booting gets to "setting clock to hardware clock [utc]" or something, then I have to pound on the keyboard for it to go any further. I tested if it would boot overnight, woke up it was still sitting there, pounded keys like I did the other times I tested, and it got moving, but extremely slow. |

with the last nitro, I had to set the paralell startup option back to no, otherwise this occurred... |

My desktop seems way more responcive now! Thanks! |

Yeah, I can run two seperate X sessions with full KDE (one stable, one cvs), complete with xcompmgr, compile three things, listen to music, and browse the web at the same time, and it doesn't blink . It's great. _________________ Work is punishment for failing to procrastinate effectively.

The ebuild is called nitro-sources-2.6.9_rc4-r1.ebuild not nitro_2.6.9-rc4.ebuild _________________ Tyan Tiger K8W, 2xOpteron 240,Powerbook5,6 15" 1.5g, Macbook Black 2g, Mac Mini 1g, Ipod P60g.
