I have that problem also but only sometimes.
Another problem I found was that the gnome-panel frequentlly hangs. _________________ The road to Perfection is too rocky ! Consider Linux as home delivery service. |

Same problem in FreeBSD, the maillist said that he believes the bug is in the vte. It's being worked on. |

I had all of the mentioned gnome errors, I gave up and tweaked e17 and xfce4(non ebuild), then came back to Gnome and *all* the errors are gone for no particular reason, Hmmm. |

|
|
This is a dumb question, but how do I emerge gnome-2.1.5?
After I get:
gnome-2.1.5-development-snapshot-gentoo.tar.bz2
untar it to:
portage.local.gtk215
Then what? Do I have to go into every dir and emerge each part?
Thanks for your help. |

put a line in your /etc/make.conf file that says
Code: | PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/path/to/portage.local.gtk215" |
|

Ok,
I put PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/portage.local.gtk215" @ the bottom of /etc/make.conf
emerge -k /usr/portage.local.gtk215/gnome-base/gnome/gnome-2.1.5.ebuild
And get the following:
Calculating dependencies |
!!! all ebuilds that could satisfy "=gnome-base/gnome-vfs-2.1*" have been masked.
!!! (dependency required by "gnome-extra/yelp-2.1.3" [ebuild])
!!! Error calculating dependancies. Please correct.
Did I try and emerge the wrong thing. How do I get rid of "have been masked"????
Thank you,

You could try
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86"
But check that it only emerges the Gnome packages and not some other unstable things! |

Sorry, I don't think I'm very clear with this statement
What I meant was:
Code: | ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge gnome |
|
|

|
|
Code: | ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge gnome |
# ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -p gnome
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies /
!!! all ebuilds that could satisfy ">=media-libs/gst-plugins-0.5.0" have been masked.
!!! (dependency required by "gnome-extra/gnome-media-2.1.3" [ebuild])
!!! Error calculating dependancies. Please correct.
Is there anyway to do it in Kprotage? Can you use it like gnorpm is used for rpms? |

Anyone here knows when gtk2/gnome will support the new transparancy in xfree 4.3 (like in directfb)? |

Hmmm... It looks like gst-plugins and gstreamer are masked 'twice' , once with the ~x86 keyword and once in the /usr/portage/profiles/packages.mask file.
So if you comment out these two lines in /usr/portage/profiles/packages.mask (with a # before the package names)
Code: |
# <azarah@gentoo.org> (27 Dec 2002)
# Breaks things for now .. wait till new versions
# of monkey-media, etc are out.
#>=media-libs/gstreamer-0.5.0
#>=media-libs/gst-plugins-0.5.0
|
Code: | ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge gnome |
should work |

This is true but, just so you know, this will cause all sorts of problems with anything that relies on gst*. Without some serious work, monkey-media and rhythmbox will not compile. I'm sure there are other packages that have been found, but these are the first two that come to mind. |

So the best way to proceed is to remove the line with gnome-media from the gnome-2.1.5.ebuild file? |

I am having problems emerging libgtkhtml-2.1.6, has anyone else had this specific problem? I am using foser's ebuilds...

Well... It really all depends. I'm running the gst*0.5 and the updated gnome-media without any problems. However, I had to go thru several extra steps to get anything that depends on gst to compile correctly. In short, the upgrade is quite doable and IMHO worth the extra steps, but this is development software.
If you go for it and run into problems, I'll be glad to help ya out as much as I can... |

This has been a slow build, I've been using one of my work p.c.'s to build it so bare with me. As I have been building Gnome-2.1.5 a lot of the files haven't been found so I have to download them to /usr/portage/distfiles and go from there. Now I'm having a problem with "gnome-games" Here's the error:
# ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge gnome
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 57) gnome-extra/gnome-games-2.1.5 to /
!!! No message digest file found: /usr/portage.local.gtk215/gnome-extra/gnome-games/files/digest-gnome-games-2.1.5
!!! Type "ebuild foo.ebuild digest" to generate a digest.
root@neo justin # ebuild foo.ebuild digest
!!! doebuild: foo.ebuild not found.
Anyone know what that is? |

You could try this
Code: | cd /usr/portage.local.gtk215/gnome-extra/gnome-games
ebuild gnome-games-2.1.5.ebuild digest

Code: | Matje
ebuild gnome-games-2.1.5.ebuild digest |
Thank you, I will try that. Is there some were that explains "digest files"? For my understanding. |

Digest files are the MD5 sums of packages. that is how we verify that the package file is not corrupt.

I think he was looking for a more extensive explanation. Is there a guide or something available, or do the man pages for instance cover everything? _________________ -Phil Crosby |
