I have an ASUS p4sgx-mx motherboard and built-in sis7012 soundcard
and I can hear sound only when the headphones is in microphone input.
I think that the problem is not in my headphones because in M$ window$ sound goes from green  (normal) output.
In Gentoo there is a big trouble...
HOW can I hear da sound from sound output but no microphone input ?
