I say the -OFFENSIVE flag should be expanded to cover packages with source code that has offensive language in it. You know, to protect the children. |
Protect the children? How many kids you have seen using GNU/Linux? Or even Windows properly? |
never seen Duck-Billed-Platypus then have you...

Anyone who thinks you can "protect the children" from offensive language must not have been to an elementary/middle school in the last 20 years... |

It is not free software's job to change cultural and legal climate. Rushing headlong into a rain of Righteous Fury(TM), jeopardizing the existence of our distribution, and negatively affecting public opinion of the movement as a whole is not the wisest path. |
Wow!
I suggest you do a little research into what free software is.
Stallman created the entire CONCEPT of free software in order to do exactly what you say the purpose of free software is not.
I'm not saying this to support either side of the "offensive" flag craziness, but it is just plain ignorant to believe that the GPL and the FREE SOFTWARE FOUNDATION were created by someone who did not have a political and social agenda. "Free software" is NOT about looking good to corporations, it is about intellectual openness.
Sure it's nice not to offend people, especially if doing so is not really going to serve a real purpose, but the argument you're making is one that goes against the basic tenets of free software.
[Sure.... it's a thread resurrection, but it just kinda hurt to read that.] |

Just add some sort of flashing 10 second paused warning with sound in the ebuild script. That would be my solution... _________________ VMware Fusion on a Mac running Gentoo |

I love diggin up an old thread. Personally I don't see the child complaining when he's sucking on those little titties for milk.
I'm no naturist but naked is normal, so it's not going to harm anyone. I think wearing Nike over your skin is more offensive, your just a walking advert. _________________ 6700 @ 2.66GHz, 4Gb RAM, 2 x 500Gb, 8800 GTX, PhysX, X-Fi, 24" Widescreen, Tux mascot |

Nah, it should just adhere to the 'offensive' use flag. _________________ 6700 @ 2.66GHz, 4Gb RAM, 2 x 500Gb, 8800 GTX, PhysX, X-Fi, 24" Widescreen, Tux mascot |
