Ich habe mal eine Frage zu dem X Server, da ich noch n00b bei gentoo bin.
Wie kann ich den Xserver starten?

naja, die lizenz wurde geändert
weiters wird xfree AFAIK mit ende des jahres aus portage verschwinden.
dh: xorg -> wird weiterentwickelt etc...

natürlich darfst du das benutzen! aber die lizenz wurde AFAIK so geändert, dass wahrscheinlich keine distro mehr xfree verwenden wird...
warum stehst du so auf xfree?? xorg ist ja im prinzip genau gleich....

Xfree ist gut, die Lizenz ist aber nicht mehr GPL kompatibel und deshalb wollen wir XFree nicht mehr benutzen, nicht weil XFree schlecht wäre oder nicht. Du kannst natürlich XFree benutzen aber wenn du immer die neuste Version willst, dann wirst du sie nicht mehr im Portage haben (damit werden Versionen Höher als 4.3 gemeint), weil sie mit der Lizenz nicht passen. Die alten Version sind und bleiben natürlich drin.
Bisher hab ich bessere Erfahrungen mit xorg gemacht, ich bin sehr begeistert davon. Außerdem ist xorg jetzt das Default-X-System bei den meisten Distris, und Gentoo ist hier nicht die Ausnahme. Aber du kannst xfree installieren, du wirst aber wenig Support bekommen.

mach mal "xorg86cfg" (nicht CONFIG) und schau dann, ob unter /etc/X11/ die xorg.conf erstellt wurde.
probier danach wieder startx...
sonst poste deine xorg.conf (OHNE kommentare '#') und details über deine grafikkarte, logmeldungen etc.

Die Servergrafikkarte ist o.O
eine onboard Karte auf diesem Mainboard (passt sonst nicht in das 19" Gehäuse 1he) : http://msi-computer.de/produkte/main_idx_view.php?Prod_id=379 aber welche genau weis ich nicht =(

Die xorg.config steht da.
Graka weis ich ehrlich nicht. Im Handbuch von MSI steht nur, VGA Port ohne weitere Angaben :/
VGA On Board
Logmeldungen stehen ebenfalls oben!
