erm... this might be a silly question... but..
what are USE variables? ie. if i add "kde" or "-kde" to USE=, what effects will it have??

It should at least get you started on what USE variables are and how to use them correctly.

rightyo..read the manual... explained most of it too me
so..just to recap..
for example, if i add "-gnome" to USE, that means that if a package includes an optional dependency on gnome, then it wont be installed??

also, if you look at /usr/portage/profiles/use.desc it will give basic descriptions of what all the use variables affect |
