Hello,

first of all i have to tell i am quite new to linux and specially to Gentoo one  .
I have experiance with apache, php, mysql and such stuff, but here on my new gentoo box i have some itchy problems.

I have searched about this here on forums and actually found some solutions but nothing works for me.

After i have emerged mysql, apache and php&mod_php i have problems when booting my system. My network is not working, netmount is in error and few other stuff which are somehow ( i think ) related to this.
I have installed my network to use a DHCP and it was working until i have added apache2 to "rc". If i remove it, it works again. Also i have tried to switch to static IP but error is the same.

Strange is ( at least to me :) ) that if i execute RC command after booting, everything which had errors while booting comes up normally, except apache2 which has two red !! by it ( i guess indicating some error ). I have also looked at log file in /var/log/apache2 but they are all empty so it doesn`t help me much.

So, i would like to ask you guys to help me get over this problem.
Maybe just one more thing -> i built kernel with a genkernel tool as i thought it is the best way for a newbie to do it. I saw in some other thread there could be something in the kernel but i rather ask first and than do what it has to be done ( if it is really it ).

thx 4 help

All the logs in /etc/var/apache are empty, which is quite strange i presume :?

I checked error.log and access.log

Hey there,

i still have problems starting my apache...

Now, i have installed a 2.6 kernel and now booting is OK, no problems with network or other stuff like i had before ( i didn't change any other thing except kernel ), but apache still doesn't work.

As i am new to linux i don't know where to look for any info about problems with apache, but i figured out if i start a service in /usr/sbin it works just fine.

Any idea?

Ok, i am still here, still trying to get some help ( obviously  ), but i came a litle further i think as i at least know what is or at least i think it is wrong.

In in ssl_error_log i get this:
[Thu Dec 09 12:46:48 2004] [error] Server should be SSL-aware but has no certificate configured [Hint: SSLCertificateFile]

But from here on iu am totaly lost :( .
I don't want to use any SSL.

Is there anyone willing to help me out with this?

http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Apache2#SSL
if you DONT want apache, then DONT put -D SSL in your APCHE2_OPTS in /etc/conf.d/apache2 :)
