Are you using emu10k1 script, or audigy-script, or perhaps some one the audigy2 uses? |

Updated May 5 2003:
then edit /etc/modules.d/emu10k1, change it to use audigy script.
Code: | post-install emu10k1 /usr/bin/audigy-script restore
pre-remove emu10k1 /usr/bin/audigy-script save |
then add 'emu10k1' to /etc/modules.autoload. I didn't change anything in /etc/emu10k1.conf
then Code: |
modules-update
modprobe emu10k1
|
have fun,
sa

Works like a charme, thanks sa!
Didn't know that I had to edit /etc/modules.d/emu10k1, because I used ALSA before. |

The detailed instructions are posted above, Posted: Sun Jan 19, 2003 11:03 am
If you follow them then emu10k1.conf will be in /etc/ and hopefull everything should work. (make sure you remove your /usr/local emu10k1 installation tho)

Newbie Alert
(just wanted to get that out the way :O)
OK tried running sa code to get this new driver installed and I don't want to sound like a doughnut but am I suppose to have a /usr/portage/distfiles folder? what about a /usr/portage/media-sound/? have a missed something out or should I have installed something before?
just installed Redhat 8 trying to get my Audigy 2 working Redhat see's it as just a Audigy with no sound
Any help would really mean a lot
TIA

the /usr/portage/* directories are gentoo linux specific. if you have redhat installed, you wont havew this.
What you should do is just checkout the sources of emu10k1 (the audigy2 driver) with cvs. then follow the instructions in emu10k1/docs/README. redhat might have other issues that you will have to deal with regarding the installation. you might have to find a redhat mailinglist/forum to ask stuff.
but If you have a little time, I suggest giving gentoo a try, I think its easier than redaht. .

during the tools install phase.

yes, It works with analog 5.1 speakers. not sure about the 6.1. I have only tested dolby with xine (with 5.1 lfe enabled in the prefences) and yes It work like a charm .( however the audigy-script needs to be tweaked to enable volume controls for all sets of speakers. see tenpins audigy FAQ for details http://basic-rip.co.uk/tenpin/linux_audigy_faq.html) It also works with digital out, however I havent figured out how to enable ac3 passthrough, so I cant get a dolby digital/DTS output for my external decoder to decode. When playing stereo audio, sound comes out of all 6 speakers, You can change this if you want tho..
any other questions? |

|
|
first of all, are the audigy 2 cards only supported by the cvs version of the emu10k1 sound driver or is this support included in the current version for download (20.a-r5)?.
assuming it is supported by the version 20.a-r5 version available in the portage tree, i got it installed, no errors, but it doesn't output any sound. lsmod lists the emu10k1, sound and ac97_codec modules and no error is given when i try to play some mp3's.
i've noticed that some sound is played in the digital port when i connect some analog speaker to it (the sound is, of course, not very clean).
in summary, everything seems pretty well instaled, but no sound. _________________ noup. |

You have to use the emu10k1 cvs version, otherwise it won't work. |

works like a charm indeed!
maybe you should point out on the instructions, that you're copying an A-version to a B-version (another note: rebooting is for wussies, a.k.a. Wind00z users ).
got it working with an Audigy 2 Platinum (the one with the livedrive)
and a 6.1 6100 Inspire set, but only the front boxes
I got this, from the readme's:
Code: |
Multichannel playback is now possible with the emu10k1
driver. An audio application requests the number of channels
with the SNDCTL_DSP_CHANNELS ioctl, and the new code is
activated.
The voices start with fx8, and increment for each additional
voice. For example, five channel output uses fx8 .. fx12 as
dsp input. Since no routes are present for this input, nothing
can be heard! In order to route the channels to the speakers
following commands must be issued:
emu-dspmgr -a"fx8:Front L"
emu-dspmgr -a"fx9:Front R"
emu-dspmgr -a"fx10:Rear L"
emu-dspmgr -a"fx11:Rear R"
emu-dspmgr -a"fx12:Analog Center"
emu-dspmgr -a"fx13:Analog LFE"
|
but that gives me the following error:
Code: |
Error: Bad input in route name: fx8
Error: Bad route specified
|
any suggestions
btw, does it use alsa now? Since I had to use aumix to put the channels fully open... |

I had to turn up OGain or something like that in the KDE Mixer to get sound from all of my boxes, maybe that helps. If you need one of my config files, just tell me which of them you want. |
