Hi All
I just made a dvdbackup with dvdbackup, like
dvdbackup -i /dev/sr0 -M -o .
Works fine!!
But know I like to use xine to play the movie from disk!
I noticed that I was not able to make any selections!
Any suggestions how I should do this??
Luca

If dvdbackup creates an images (ISO) of the dvd, you can loop-mount it and then browse over to the contents of it. _________________ >>> emerge (3 of 7) mcse/70-293 to /

I don't think I'll get an ISO from dvdbackup. It looks to me like a 1on1 copy from the dvd. For example, I can play the movie chapter by chapter!!. But I cannot select e.g. subtitles!

You don't know what an ISO is.
What is the result of running
Code: | file dvdbackup.file |
?
If it says it is a UDF or ISO9660 image, then it is. _________________ >>> emerge (3 of 7) mcse/70-293 to /

Here is what is created by dvdbackup:
directory: <name of the movie>/VIDEO_TS/
inside this directory there are file like:
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_TS.VOB
VTS_01_0_BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_0.VOB
......
VTS_05_1.VOB
Those VOB files are the once that are big, and contain parts of the movie
I think this is different that what you expect!

Well, no - you really have no idea what I expect.
What it creates is a simple 1 to 1 copy of the contents of the DVD.
So just load up VIDEO_TS.IFO in Xine and you should be good.
If Xine doesn't have support for VOBs then you should get that first.
I seem to recall it does. _________________ >>> emerge (3 of 7) mcse/70-293 to /

thanks!!
But before ending this discussion, suppose I like to write this copy back to a dvd, is there good (free) software to do this, something like dvdshrink (which is for windows) ??

That's silly.
Dvdshrink is a shrinker - as the name sort of suggests - for fitting a DVD9 on a DVD-R.
If all you want to do is copy a DVD 1:1 onto a new disk you can do a bit-by-bit copy with any program that is capable of this.
If, on the other hand, you want to actually shrink the files,
should shake your bonnet. _________________ >>> emerge (3 of 7) mcse/70-293 to /

I have to shrink it, size of the original dvd-files is something like 7.2GB and there only fits 4.7GB on my dvd RW's...
So I'll take a look at transcode!!
Thanks
