|
|
I have tried booting from CDROM to install the gentoo 1.4_rc2 tarball.
Have tried SuSe 7.3 and Gentoo 1.1a boot iso's.
All is well up to scsi initialisation when there is a repeating error on screen:
.....
esp0: SCSI bus reset interrupt
esp0: SCSI bus reset interrupt
esp0: disconnect, resetting bus
esp0: resetting scsi bus
.....
And the boot process goes no further.
Intalling by booting the Mandrake 7.1 boot CD works fine but the kernel is "too old" to allow chroot to the gentoo stage 3 tarball.
Any suggestions please? I am in the process of downloading the debian CD's (using LOTS of bandwidth!) to give them a try too...

Sadly, Debian iso's do not boot either.
I suspect the esp scsi controller code has changed between 2.2 and 2.4 kernels and no longer works with the sparcstation 4 ? |

Success!
I installed mandrake sparc 7.1 from CD which boots and works OK.
I then downloaded kernel version 2.4.21-pre4_1.0 from the debian sparc sources and rebuilt that on the sparc under the mandrake bare bones system. This now boots OK with no errors and allows a chroot to sparc gentoo stage 1.4rc2.
Will get there eventually! |
