Hi,

I installed gentoo on my VAIO Laptop F540 for a few weeks already. however, on the prompt of the screen when it is booting up, it always say

Pentium III, Coppermine, 141MHz, 256K Cache

but my system is Pentium III, Coppermine, 500MHz, 256K Cache.

why is the CPU speed is wrong?

and when i use command:

cat /proc/cpuinfo

it is said the same.

is there anything wrong with it?

Do a
Code:
emerge x86info
x86info -mhz

to know the real speed of your processor under linux.

Try enabling the kernel options : /proc/cpu/msr and /proc/cpu/cpuid

It is your kernel which reports a wrong speed, eh ?
Then try recompiling the kernel.

It could just be Intel Speedstep. Look at the speed (cat /proc/cpuinfo) under load.
