Hi,
I am using gentoo-dev-source as kernel.
After much difiiculty i managed to install gentoo 2004.3 on my IBM netvista P4 system.
I mean the genkernel doen not works and had to configure the kernel a lot to get my ethernet card working. Now I am getting mouse as
mice: PS/2 mouse device common for all mice
input: PS/2 Generic mouse on isa0060/serio1

xorgcfg says that it cannot find /dev/mouse.
When i do Xorg -configure
I get error ( EE) Failed to load module "i810" ( once-only module)
Xorg is not able to detect your mouse.

however, it reads my graphic card correctly sis300 and makes entry into xorg.conf.new

When i try to test this configuration
X -config /root/xorg.conf.new the computer hangs ---- no activity at all with a blank screen ( not exactly black but seems like some brown black screen is there)
CTRL+ALT+DEL not working, CTRL+ALT+F1/F2 not working.
No keyboard activity.
After 1 hour I pressed the reset button.
Now I am back to "Working Windows XP" and writing this.
Forgot to mention that previously I had Mandrake 10 installed on this -- I had used cooker sources and installed xorg and kde3.3.2 on mandrake.

I tried using the xorg.conf file of mandrake ( ofcource i had saved it) -- computer again hangs.

I have gentoo 2004.1 on my wife's AMD Athlon XP system with Via KM-400 chipset and it works like breeze. though it has XFree86 and Kde 3.2.

Does gentoo have some known issue with IBM netvista PC ( sis 300 graphic card) and IBM PS/2 2-button mouse ?

Will do a emerge-webrsync and emerge --update world then will try again.

Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Abhay

Change your mouse to /dev/input/mice

Xorg -configure never finds my mouse

Thanks a lot.
Changing /dev/mouse to /dev/input/mice and including the driver 8139CP did the trick for me.

Thanks again.
