I need please some help in chosing a kernel.
1).It's got to be in portage. (Not really, but it would be nice )
2).I dont care if it's the most table one.
3).I dont care if it's the most secure one.
4).All I care is, it's have to be the most fastest one, optimized for best desktop performance.
Thanks in advance |

Try the Nitro sources - at the moment they are based on the lataest kernel with fast schedulers etc... very fast and (for me) stable....
Search for Nitro int he forums and choose your flavour. _________________ Aerosolo ergo sum - I spray therefore I am

Well I would suggest if you want a kernel in portage to go with the normal gentoo-dev-sources. Its easy to install since its in portage anyways and its a 2.6 kernel which IMHO faster than 2.4.
Code: | emerge gentoo-dev-sources |
Also you can check this thread out.https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=276468
for the Nitro Kernel. Its not in portage but can be put in the overlay.
I used to use Love sources. Which can be found here.http://www.love-sources.org/news.php
Hasn't had as much development as Nitro has lately. But I find using Love with nicks scheduler to be the fastest Kernel out there.
But I am only one opinion of many. You really need to test them out for yourself though.[/code]
If you need help with Love/Nitro and overlay let me know. |

I have used love/nitro for quite a while now but have recently been converted to morph. You get an optimised desktop kernel with some carefully thought out patches that seems a lot more stable for me and very fast. |

Love and Nitro sources have been my mainstay for the last year and you probably can't go wrong with either. Although you might not be worried about stability you are probably safer than you think with either of these patch sets. I'm currently running the latest Morph and am very pleased with the performance - my new favorite.
You might consider giving all three patch sets a try and pick your favorite since it's easy to switch between them with a reboot. |
